Suspected Kidnappers Arrested in Riverine Areas Following Army Raids in Edo State
A joint security task force has arrested suspected kidnappers after a successful raid at Upper Sakponba and riverine communities in the state.
All suspected kidnappers, which were male, were arrested around Ogbemudia oil palm plantation on Saturday, November 12, not up to 24 hrs after the military started a week long operation to weed out criminals following a rapid increase in kidnapping, killings and cult related violence.
Before the operation commenced, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Anthony Omozoje, met with governor Godwin Obaseki to explain the operation.
General Omozoje commented on the arrest saying that the task force was on a clearance operation at the suspected kidnappers hideouts at Ogbemudia Oil Palm Plantation and the the river behind when the suspects were arrested.
The goal of the operations to disrupt all kidnapping along the axis and secure the Benin-Auchi Expressway.
He also mentioned that several escaped prisoners and criminal gang leaders have been arrested, as the task force is extremely focused on ensuring an immense reduction in crime in Benin City and Its environment.
He further added that he was working alongside the commander 4 Brigade, Brig. Gen. UM Bello and the assistant Inspector General (AIG), Zone 5, Mr. Sola Davis
