A 35-year-old security guard, Promise Jonah was on Tuesday docked in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s diesel.
Jonah of bottle Blue security, Abuja, is standing trial on a count charge bothering on theft by servant.
He however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Diaz Ayo of the same address, reported the matter at the Jabi Police Station on March 26.
Nwachukwu said that the defendant was employed to secure and guard the property.
She said that the complainant claimed that on the same date, the defendant dishonestly removed diesel that was inside their generator and replaced it with water.
Nwachukwu said that the water cause damage to the generator valued N3.5 million causing the owner a big loss.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation the defendant made a confessional statement but could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
Nwachukwu told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Jobbo adjourned the matter until May 29 for hearing.
