Rivers Court Remands Task Force Official for Knocking Down JSS3 Pupil
A Rivers State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, on Tuesday, remanded a supposed official of a task force for allegedly knocking unconscious a Junior Secondary School 3 pupil, Bassey Etor.
Chief Magistrate Israel Agbaiso remanded the accused, Dienye Dappa, in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Degema.
The chief magistrate, however, admitted to bail the driver of the Sienna vehicle that knocked down the pupil, Augustine Okoro, and adjourned the matter till December 3, 2020, for Dappa to take his plea.
Dappa had on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, allegedly engaged the driver of a Sienna minivan in a scuffle with the aim of taking over steering wheel and caused a crash that affected Etor on the NTA Road, Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The pupil lost some teeth and sustained life-threatening injuries, with his father frowned on the slow pace of police investigation into the matter.
He urged the police to arrest Dappa’s accomplices and being them to justice.
He said, “I want the police to arrest all his accomplices too so that they won’t continue with their unruly behaviour on the roads.
“But I must say that the police have not done well; I was able to meet the person, who caused the accident after the court proceedings and asked him who he was working for and he said he had been crying and begging the police to take him to the union he was working for, but they refused to do anything in that regard.
“When I raised my concerns with the prosecuting counsel, I was shocked that she became angry, saying I was attempting to dictate the pace of the case when they did not ask me money for court processes or VIO report.”
