Paystack, the Nigerian fintech startup, has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following allegations of workplace sexual misconduct.

According to a report by TechCabal, the company has initiated a formal investigation after the allegations gained traction on social media on November 12.

While Olubi’s X account has since been deleted, trending posts indicate that the tweets in question were made prior to his co-founding of Paystack.

The tweets, shared by Olubi between 2009 and 2013 included sexually explicit jokes about colleagues, and mentions of experiencing erections during meetings.

They also showed comments about wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs, and remarks that referenced minors, bestiality, and sexualised anime characters.

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the firm told TechCabal.

“We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.

“Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.”

Paystack said it has established a “fair, transparent, and structured” review process to conduct a thorough investigation.

The payment firm said, aligns with its internal policies.

“This process is guided by our policies, our values, and our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees,” the firm added.
