Olufemi Abegunde, Deloitte West Africa deputy chairman, is dead.

Abegunde died in the early hours of Monday, August 30, 2021, in the United Kingdom after battling a COVID-19 related illness.He was said to have contracted the virus while in the European country for a routine medical check-up.Lwazi Bam, chief executive, Deloitte Africa, announced his death to the staff of the company on Monday.

It is with a very heart that I have just been informed of the passing of Olufemi (Femi) Abegunde, our Deputy Africa Board Chair,” Bam announced.“Femi sadly passed away this morning from COVID-19 related illness. Please will join me in expressing our deep-felt condolences to his wife Yinka and their four daughters.“Our hearts go out to Femi’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time. Before his death, Abegunde was head of energy and resources in Deloitte West Africa and a member of the Deloitte Africa executive committee, representing the region on the African board.He had over 30 years of experience in the energy and resources industry — upstream, downstream, power, gas and liquified natural gas (LNG) operations, where he provided assurance, business advisory and tax advisory services to clients within the West African market.He was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in Nigeria (CITN).Abegunde was also a partner at Deloitte and Touche in Nigeria.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in management and accounting and a masters degree in business administration at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
