Olowokure: A Tremendous and an Active Bar Man – Prof. Odinkalu
OO was a man of tremendous decency & supreme patience & tolerance. He was a practising Christian married to a practising Muslim. Xmas & the Eid were celebrated happily in his home & he took ownership of both.
He graduated from FGC Maiduguri in 1981 & was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. We worked together in many capacities over the years, & still did at the point of his death. He was the Legal Adviser of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) during my term as President of the Association until last year.
OO’s application, patience, humility, professionalism, thoroughness & lack of cant always shone through.
He had been ill for the past 2 or so years but, for most of that period, you’d not have known. He dealt with mortal illness with his usual sense of both application & amusement.
He did indeed vote in the Presidential elections on 23 Feb even though he was frail. He lived long enough to induct a child of his into the Nigerian Bar but he predeceases his Dad, a former Professor at the University of Maiduguri who, at 87, will have the painful task of burying his son.
They shd all be in our prayers. May the Heavens be kind in judgement & grant him eternal peace.
