The exquisite interior and exterior of Mitsubishi Showroom was a showcase of sounds and colours on Friday, December 16, 2022, as the In-House and Government Counsel Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, held an End-of-Year Soiree (evening party) to mark the conclusion of an eventful and challenging 2022.
NEWSWIRE Law and Events Magazine’s correspondent at the event reports that in the one year since its inception in 2021, the Forum has made no secret of its intention transform its profile and fortunes from the margins to the mainstream of the Premier Bar. Thanks to its innovative programmes and proactive interventions under the able leadership of Justin Lewa (the now-retired legal adviser and company secretary of Sterling Bank Plc.) and her team, the Forum is now a force to reckon with in the affairs of the Lagos NBA Branch.
This was attested to by the level of attendance, in terms of numbers and quality, at the soiree – which was a follow-up to last year’s inaugural Meet-and-Greet Party.
Inspite of its official designation, the Forum also boasts of membership from other categories of legal practitioners, including private practitioners – many of who made their presence felt at the soiree. The current Chairman of the Lagos NBA Branch, Ikechukwu Uwanna was joined at the event by one of his predecessors, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN and other heavy hitters in the Branch.
It was a light-hearted and informal affair, with music, dancing, games and karaoke contests among various random groups whose performances drew applause and laughter from the attendees. However, one of the major highlights of the evening, according to our correspondent, was a knowledge-sharing session featuring short speeches by such distinguished in-house veterans as Michael Otu (company secretary and legal adviser of Zenith Bank) and his counterparts from other organisations representing key sectors of the economy. They offered advice and success tips to upcoming in-house and government counsel based on their vast experience.
The event drew to a close with a raffle draw offering a variety of prizes and gifts to winners, as the Forum marked yet another milestone in its ascendancy as a veritable engine of growth and influence within the Premier Bar and the NBA as a whole.
