The four branches are NBA Badagry, NBA Epe, NBA Ikorodu and NBA Lagos. The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, commenced a nationwide indefinite strike on Monday, April 6 over the non-implementation of judicial financial autonomy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
In addition, President Muhammadu Buhari had signed an Executive Order granting financial autonomy to the judiciary and state house of assembly in May 2020, after several agitations.
However, the gazetting of the order was suspended after Buhari met with governors, who later expressed concern over its constitutionality.
The Governors, through their respective Attorneys-general, brought an application before the Supreme Court asking it to clearly define the rights and obligations of all the parties.
