With more than 13,000 Lawyers gathered in Lagos for 5 days, the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association is said to be the largest gathering of Legal Practitioners in sub Saharan Africa.
However, one thing these conferences have lacked since it’s inception is the absence of a free legal aid Clinic. What benefit does a gathering like this have without it affecting the lives of ordinary every day people in and outside the conference venue.
This year, the Olumide Akpata led NBA took a BOLD step by establishing the first ever Legal Aid Clinic at an AGC.
The Legal Aid Clinic was established to provide free legal advice and services to all those who provide ancillary support, food vendors and all who came to sell their products at the conference venue.
The Legal Aid Clinic was declared opened by the 1st Vice President of the NBA, John Aikpokpo-Martins in the company of a few NBA Branch Vice Chairman and the incoming 2nd Vice President of the NBA.
The Clinic was co -organised by the Human Rights Committees of NBA Lagos, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry Branches in collaboration with
the Office of the 1st Vice President of the NBA, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria , Lagos Office and FIDA LAGOS and in
Partnership with Duty Solicitors Network, with Support from Matthew Burkaa & Co., Citizens Gavel, PILP, JRP and Others
