Meta announced on Wednesday that it would launch a new test in Germany, France, and the United States, enabling buyers to browse listings from eBay on Facebook Marketplace and complete their transactions directly on eBay.
This move is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to expand its Marketplace platform.
This comes after the European Commission fined Meta $840 million in November for anti-competitive practices related to Facebook Marketplace. The Commission had accused Meta of using its market position to favour its services over competitors. While Meta is appealing the decision, the company confirmed that it is working to address the concerns raised by the Commission.
In a statement, Meta explained that eBay sellers would benefit from greater exposure to Facebook’s vast audience, while users of Facebook Marketplace would have access to a wider variety of listings from the eBay community.
The European Commission did not immediately comment on Meta’s latest announcement. The collaboration between the two tech giants marks a notable shift in the e-commerce landscape, potentially reshaping how users shop across these platforms.
