LEGAL HEAVYWEIGHTS EXPECTED TO GRACE AUGUST 13 LAUNCH OF ANNE URUEGI’S BOOK ON SPACE LAW

    Space law enthusiast and NBA Rep Elect to the General Council of the Bar, Anne Uruegi Agi, is set to launch a text on Space Law.

    The launch will hold virtually on Zoom via the Link: https://bit.ly/3p31Y4O on Saturday the 13th day of August, 2022 at 3pm, chaired by senior learned counsel, Femi David Ikotun, Esq of Ziongates Chambers.

    The title of the text is: “SPACE LAW 101 FOR BEGINNERS (AN INTRODUCTION TO SPACE LAW)”.

    The launch promises to be power packed as a sneak preview of the guest list has revealed a faculty of distinguished personalities.

    Among the distinguished guests are Chief Kanu G. Agabi, SAN, OON (Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice), Past NBA President, Augustine Alegeh, SAN, Chief Joe Agi, SAN, Mr. Emeka Ozoani, SAN (the Chief Launcher) and Mr. Olumide Akpata, the NBA President.

    Members of the academia are not left out as the launch promises to have prominent law lecturers in attendance, led by the DVC Administration of the University of Calabar, Prof. Michael Okom, as well as Professors of Law, Israel Worugji, Cyril Ndifon, Jacob Dada, Michael Ibanga, Augustine Agom, Bassey Okon, Oluwole Akintayo, Alero Akeredolu and Associate (Profs) Rose Ohiama Ugbe and Edem E. Udoaka. Doctors of Law, Dr. Joe Edet, Dr. (Mrs.) M. Ekpo, Dr. Miebaka Nabiebu, Dr. E. Alobo, Dr. Mike Otu and Dr. Friday Idiku (Fac of Agric) Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Igwe (Chartered Accountant) and a host of other lecturers.

    The DG (Dr. Halilu Ahmad) and officers of the regulatory agency for space in Nigeria, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) are also billed to attend.

    The book reviewer is non other than past NBA President, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN.

    Chairman of NBA Calabar Branch, Mr. Attah Ochinke and his Secretary, Ms Eno Edet and members of the branch will also be on ground, as will member of FIDA, Cross River State, Newswire has gathered.

    NBA Ogoja branch will also be in attendance to fully support and encourage Ms Agi.

    Speaking with Ms Agi on the contents of the Book, she revealed that the text was written to provide lawyers with the most basic information about the laws regulating outer space so as to ignite their interest in the sector. She expressed worry that there was very little interest shown by the legal community in that field and as such she hoped that her book will ignite the interest of legal minds to space law.

    A perusal of the book reveals that it provides a clear overview of the legal aspects of a wide range of current and evolving space activities and discusses space laws, space law sources, the latest developments, and challenges affecting international space law. It also covers a wide range of issues including a thorough analysis of space policies which will provide even knowledgeable readers, with new perspectives.
