Ivanka Trump’s Call to end Sexual Harassment Backfires Spectacularly

Ivanka Trump’s call to end sexual harassment during a speech before the World Assembly for Women in Tokyo Friday did not go over well with some people on social media.

The 36-year-old first daughter’s seemingly well-intentioned remarks received negative feedback from Twitter users who referenced her father’s history of misogyny and reminded her of sexual harassment allegations leveled against him in the past.

“All too often, our workplace culture fails to treat women with appropriate respect,” Ivanka Trump said during the address. “This takes all forms, including harassment, which can never be tolerated. Our workplaces must mirror our values: work and family.”

The first daughter’s comments appeared to baffle Twitter users who either said her message was “ironic” or suggested that she should “tell that to her dad.”

The president’s daughter also detailed the “setbacks” mothers face in the workplace in her speech.

“It’s time for our societies to find new and innovative ways to make it easier for women to experience the joy of motherhood without facing major setbacks,” she added.

“This isn’t just a woman’s issue: it’s a family issue. Yet it disproportionately impacts women, who are the most likely to leave the workforce or curtail our ambitions because we have no access to affordable care.”

Ivanka Trump’s comments came on the heels of criticism Donald Trump Jr. received from people on Twitter Wednesday following remarks he made on sexual harassment that received similar backlash.

“Why don’t we simplify this greatly and publish a list of those in Hollywood who aren’t creeps??? Apparently a much smaller group,” the first son wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

At least 16 women accused Trump of sexual harassment throughout the course of his candidacy and campaign. He denied all allegations of misconduct.
