HERDERS / FARMERS CLASHES: Comes the Backlash
Ever since the Governor of Ondo State, Akeredolu and Sunday Igboho summoned the courage to call for the evacuation of the Fulani herdsmen, other groups have started to speak out. Among the latest to do so are youths from Edo State, who aired their grievances in a recent press conference. A group called the Talakawa Parliament disclosed the 14 days eviction notice given to Fulani herdsmen in the state.
In the statement, the youths demanded the swift evacuation of all the Fulani herdsmen in the communities, forests and farmlands before the end of the ultimatum. These comments are the latest in a wave of anti-herder pronouncements and actions by political actors, and private citizens alike, in response to the long-standing pattern of bloody clashes between nomadic cattle herders and settled communities in the middle best and the south of Nigeria.
