I feel honoured and I am glad to be part of the NBA Jalingo Branch (Equity Bar) Law Week, themed “Legal Practice In a Volatile Democracy; The Nigerian Experience” .
Democracy, in the Nigerian experience, has been a vexed question with so many draw-backs challenging its sustenance. The problem is multifaceted and is gradually eroding the substructure of our democracy. The problems are complex and limitless. It therefore gives me great happiness that the Bar; the watchdog of the society, is at a time when we are getting set for another round of national elections. A time when we are looking into this matter with the view to finding a way out of the quandary. The theme is timely and apt!
I am fully persuaded that the programme will be insightful, with very stimulating engagements. Also, I am confident that we will rise from this programme with fresh ideas and propositions on how to make notable progress in our nation’s democracy.
I commend the Branch Executive Committee and the Law Week Planning Committee for coming up with the wonderful theme, and for the efforts and resources that have gone into the planning and execution. I extend my regards to the entire members of the Branch and urge all participants to actively engage in the lineup of activities scheduled for the week. I am certain that it will be a rewarding experience.
God bless NBA Jalingo Branch,
God bless the Nigerian Bar Association,
And may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
