As lawyers under the auspices of FIDA Nigeria gather in Abuja to discuss on the topic: “Addressing Gender-Based Violence: New Tools”, it is important to felicitate with our dear colleagues for choosing a topic which would open channels of discussion around curtailing the menace of gender-based violence. I must admit that I am one person who talks and acts strongly against violence, as I understand that we are, as humans, all born equal. Additionally, the fight against violence perpetrated on women is to be fought by all and sundry, despite and inspite our sex, gender roles and the stereotypes that abound in our culture. I hope that the new tools that will be borne out of this event will see men, taking up more responsibilities and roles in contributing to the elimination of this menace in our society.
On a lighter note, in welcoming members of FIDA to Abuja, a novelty football match will be played by FIDA Queens against Y.C. Maikyau Strikers. This will create an opportunity for the conferees to relax, interact and unwind in a more social environment.
It is on this note, that I wish the participants a successful Conference and a memorable deliberation. I am convinced that the program will be impactful and entertaining.
Long live FIDA!
Long live the NBA!!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
