By Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar is no doubt a highly respected Nigerian elder statesman that needs no introduction but for the sake of the youths and other Nigerians who may not know him please permit me to have the honour of introducing him .

General Abdulsalami is the ex military head of state of Nigeria that was in charge of the of transition of Nigeria from military to civil rule in 1999 for which he got a blank cheque and paid himself handsomely well , no question about that. He is the one that signed into force the dubious , fraudulent and evil document called the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which covers the darkest secrets of the military regimes in Nigeria and tie the hands of Nigerians .

Today it is glearing even to the blind man that the 1999 constitution is the main cause of the disunity, instability, insecurity and abject poverty in Nigeria.

Abdulsalami had the privilege and rear opportunity to return. Nigeria from a unitary state to a federal state like it used to be in 1963 in line with the dreams and aspirations of our founding fathers but for myopic and selfish reasons he refused, failed and/ or neglected to do so . Knowing well that the 1999 constitution in its original state was a Military decree meant to serve the government of despotic General Sani Abacha who was bound to be Nigeria’s life president but for providence he was snatched by the cold hands of death . Knowing well that the 1999 decree , oh sorry! I mean the 1999 constitution is defective, he nevertheless for the benefit of a section of the country , the sake of his military consistency , his cohorts , friends and himself imposed it on Nigerians. To tell you how deceptive the 1999 constitution is , General Olusegun Obasanjo the chosen, oh! sorry I mean elected president of Nigeria who was then just released from prison did not have the chance to read or know the content of the, document with which he was ordained, oh! sorry I mean sworn in and so also was the faith of Nigerians because we the people did not we anything . We did not firmly and solemnly resolved to live in unity and harmony as one indivisible and indissoluble Sovereign Nation and to provide for a constitution .

Today , I congratulate Abdulsalami for his good job and his legacy of helping to prepare Nigeria for her imminent doom , catastrophy and destruction . I am happy that he is seeing his good deeds manifest in his life time and I am sure that he must be happy and proud of himself.

Looking at Abdulsalami ‘s good works , I find it absurd to hear him at the 19th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, condemning the planned increase in fuel price which he said will push millions of Nigerians into poverty. I find it funny that he is complaining of the insecurity, unemployment and underemployment in Nigeria which he chiefly created.

Abdulsalami must stop shedding crocodile tears for our poor economy and the millions of Nigerians that are needlessly poor as he rightly pointed out . He must come clean by addressing and spear heading important issues like the restructuring of Nigeria or the conduct of referendum for the renegotiation of the unity of Nigeria . He must stop pretending as if he is concerned of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, violence in the South-East, kidnappings and abductions of travellers across many states, ethnic, communal and religious conflicts in the country. He must stop pretending as if he cares of the welfare of our overstretched security forces or give a damn of the deaths and millions of internally displaced persons in the country over the past years

Wearing a white snow beard like a saint and hiding under one phony National War Committee, oh! sorry I mean National Peace Committee cannot take away the fact that Abdulsalami contributed immensely to the problems bedevilling Nigerians today . He owes Nigerians the duty to redirect the country on the right track and not to continue to mislead Nigerians to a point of no return that will ultimately lead Nigeria to become a failed State .
