FIDA Lagos Concludes Network of Correctional Services Interactions Between Bar, Bench & Police
The stakeholders’ meeting geared towards forming a network of the members of the Bar, Bench, Police and Correctional Institutions towards effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, a FIDA Nigeria project sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation, was successfully concluded on the Friday, the 16 October 2020. The meeting, which was in four phases, ended yesterday (Saturday) with the joint meeting of all the stakeholders, the Bar, the Bench, the Police and the Correctional Services.
The following salient consensus decisions were reached at the meeting:
1) Creation of a formal network of all stakeholders, which will also involve creating a whatsapp group for effective dissemination of information.
2) Collaboration with the Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS) and the Court Centered Prison Decongestion Intiative, which are all aimed at effective implementation of the ACJL Lagos State
3) Proactive actualization of the roles of the participants, especially as they involve the effective implementation of the ACJL Lagos State.
FIDA Lagos hosted the meeting.
The Chairperson, Mrs Phil Nneji, FICMC, appreciated the participants for their commitments towards effective implementation of the ACJL Lagos State.
She noted that their commitments were genuinely expressed in the way they turned out en mass to attend the meeting, despite the roadblocks on the road. She expressed the fact that she is optimistic that with the deliberations and outcomes at the various meetings, which commenced on 8th October 2020 and ended on 16 October 2020, that there will be remarkable improvement in the administration of the ACJL Lagos State.
She enjoined the participants to maintain the network already formed towards the effective implementation of the ACJL Lagos State.
