FEBRUARY ELECTION: NBA Lagos CLE Committee to Hold Session on Poll-Related Forensics

Learned Silks & Distinguished Colleagues,

The most topical issue in Nigeria right now is undoubtedly the quadrennial general election scheduled for February and March 2023 where Nigerians will go to the polls to elect a new President as well as Governors and legislators across the States of the Federation and the two Houses of the National Assembly. The preponderance of politico-legal opinion is that the 2023 elections will be one of the most consequential elections in Nigeria’s history and will significantly impact the socio-economic outlook of Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the build-up to the elections has almost been overshadowed by controversies relating to decisions emanating from the judiciary in pre-election disputes. For some, this merely serves as a foreshadow to the inevitable judicial challenge to the outcome of the election, one way or the other.

It is for the foregoing reason that the Branch Continuing Legal Education Committee (CLE) decided that there is no better topic for the February 2023 KSS session than the topic, “Election Forensics- An Indispensable Tool for Voters, Regulators and Justice System” to be facilitated by Dr. Abiodun Osiyemi.

As we promised in my new year message, we will continue to provide us with contemporary and beneficial knowledge sharing sessions in partial fulfillment of our objectives of enhancing the professional development of our members. This is just another example.
