There is palpable excitement in the Nigerian legal firmament as the community of practitioners prepares to descend on the serene and picturesque city of Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, for the 2021 edition of the eagerly-anticipated National Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP).
The event, which is slated to hold at the capital city’s Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort from Sunday, June 13 to Wednesday, June 16, 2021, will kick off with a keynote speech by the honorable Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, the Rt. Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, who will speak on the topic, ‘Law, Lawyers, and the Next Generation.’ The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Tanko Muhammed is expected to serve as the Chairman of the conference.
One of the highlights of the four-day gathering will be the Showcase Session, which will explore the ways in which Nigeria can reverse its tragic course and be made to work for all its citizens.
It promises to be a robust and insightful conversation aimed at generating pragmatic and progressive solutions anchored on innovative ideas and experience.
Most importantly, it will eschew the tone of lamentation that has characterized past discourses of this kind.
A stellar cast of speakers – including the immediate past President of the NBA, Paul Usoro, SAN; foremost political economist Prof. Pat Utomi and journalist Kadaria Ahmed will join Their Excellencies, the Governors of Ondo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States – Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, Udom Emmanuel and Nyesom Wike, respectively – as they dissect the soul of a dynamic, extraordinary but dysfunctional polity.
For the prospective delegate, it is an incredible opportunity to network and add value to one’s legal practice. Delegates are expected to register today for #UYO2021 at www.nba-slp.org
