EndSARS: Artist charged with arson


An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded an artist, Sodiq Busari in custody of Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly setting ablaze the Orile Agege Police Station during last year’s EndSARS protest in Lagos.

Chief Magistrate L. A. Owolabi, who issued the order, said the defendant would remain in the custody of the centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).Busari, 27, is facing a two count charge of arson and burglary before the court.

Prosecutor Innocent Odugbo told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on October 20, 2020 at Orile Agege Police Station. Odugbo claimed the police saw the face of the defendant and recognised him.The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant and others at large burgled the police station and carted away an AK47 rifle and other ammunition before setting the station ablaze.The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.He adjourned the case until October 23.
