Nigeria Customs operatives have shot another 35-year-old man, Auwal Sani at Fadi Gurje village, Mani Local Government Area of Katsina Statel on Friday.Villagers in the area told The Nation that some customs men stormed the village in a patrol vehicle and started shooting into the air for unknown reasons.
Sani was said to have been hit in the leg during the shooting.The officials reportedly fled in the commotion that followed the incident and are yet to be found.
The Katsina State Police Command, while confirming the incident in a statement, said they have intervened and restored normalcy to the area.Spokesman of the Command, SP Gambo Isah, also informed the injured man has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
He said: “Report reaching my desk reveals that some Nigeria Custom Service officials inside a patrol vehicle stormed Fadi Gurje village, Mani LGA of Katsina State, fired several shots into the air and escaped to an unknown destination.
“Consequently, one Auwal Sani, 35, of the same address was shot on the leg. The victim was rushed to the Orthopaedic Hospital, Katsina, for treatment. Efforts are ongoing to identify the erring officers and bring them to justice.“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State, has called for calm in the affected community and enjoins them to go about their lawful business as the police are working closely with the Nigeria Customs Service’s leadership with a view to resolving the problem and bringing the perpetrators to book.”The spokesman of the katsina Zonal Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, Danbaba Isah, also confirmed the incident to The Nation.He assured that an investigation into the incident has already commencedThe Nation recalled that the latest shooting incident was the third in the last one month in the State.
