The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the trial of former Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Acting Director-General, Haruna Baba Jauro, to November 21, 2023.
Jauro is standing trial alongside two others for alleged stealing and money laundering totaling N304 million.
At Monday’s sitting, prosecution witness Orji Chukwuma, an EFCC investigator, testified that Jauro’s statements admitted as evidence in a trial-within-trial were voluntarily given under caution
The court consequently admitted the statements as exhibits in the current trial.
Under cross-examination, Chukwuma said Jauro was interrogated in a conducive environment and signed the statements acknowledging he was cautioned. Jauro also endorsed the statements, according to the investigator.
Justice Tijani Ringim thereafter adjourned continuation of trial to November 21 and 22.
Jauro is facing a 19-count charge of stealing and money laundering alongside Dr. Dauda Bawa and Thlumbau Enterprises Limited. They all pleaded not guilty.
