It gives me great pleasure to extend my hearty congratulations to the leadership members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, my learned colleagues, on the success of the 2021 Law Week of the Premier Branch. I also want to place on record my salutations to the Branch on the smooth transition of power and handover by the administration of Mr. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe to the new executive council led by Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna.
I consider the theme of this year’s Law Week, “Disruption, Innovation and the Bar”‘ as most instructive and apposite in view of the phenomenal changes being brought about by new digital technologies, and the manner in which they are upending long-held business and professional practices and challenging longstanding stereotypes, as well as disrupting existing paradigms of work and lifestyle.

The Trajectory of excellence in Legal practice
The Dynamism of law and practi e in Nigeria
Nigerian Maritme Cabotage policy and law
The legal profession has not been left untouched by this technological revolution. The challenge for lawyers and law firms is not how to prevent the emergence of the legal marketplace that will be driven by these new technologies, but how to exploit the opportunities presented by this new reality, as well as minimize it’s potential threats. I am confident that the lessons learnt and insights gained from the technical sessions of the Week will go a long way towards reinventing our beloved profession and positioning it for the emerging legal marketplace, as well as enhancing the NBA’s role in promoting the rule of law in our country.
My greetings goes to the new Chairman of the Lagos Bar, Ikechukwu Uwanna and his executive council on their new role. I have no doubt that, with the help of God and the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, the Uwanna-led executive will deliver on it’s mandate. My special appreciation also goes to the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Yemi Akangbe for his stewardship and efforts to take the Lagos Bar forward.
Well done, and may God bless the Premier Bar Branch.
