Renowned entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has voiced his outrage over claims of a possible plot to arrest Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election.

The controversy erupted following allegations by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) that the current administration is conspiring to detain Obi in connection with the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August. POMR’s spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, asserted that these accusations are part of a broader scheme to target Obi, despite no concrete evidence supporting the claims.

The protest, organized by various groups including supporters of Bola Tinubu, aims to highlight the severe economic hardships faced by Nigerians under the current administration. Bayo Onanuga, a spokesperson for the presidency, had previously accused Obi of being behind the protest, sparking further controversy.

In response, Charly Boy took to his official X handle to question the rationale behind targeting Obi for the planned demonstration. He expressed his frustration in pidgin English, challenging the government to proceed with their alleged plan and face the potential repercussions.

Charly Boy’s post read: “Abeg I wan understand something, so Nigerians – BAT supporters join – wan gather protest against Tinubu’s bad government and horrible tenure, but na Peter Obi dem wan hold accountable by arresting am? Okay na!! Let’s go! Make una try that arrest and see what will happen as una think say una dey untouchable therefore can do anything. We dey dey look and wait.”

His comments reflect growing discontent among public figures regarding the administration’s handling of dissent and opposition voices.
