Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has expressed disappointment over the report in the media claiming that over 40 Tiv farmers were killed by herdsmen in Nasarawa State.
Sule stated this through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra which was made available to our correspondent yesterday in Lafia.
The statement said Governor Sule held an emergency security meeting in Obi Local Government Area with traditional rulers, Tiv and Fulani community leaders and security chiefs over the recent killings of Tiv farmers in the area.
He urged community leaders to be more circumspect in handling information and to avoid bandying unverified figures and masking spurious claims.“There is no truth or facts to support the figures of those purported to have been killed. What becomes clear from the interaction at the meeting is that the figures claimed could not be verified,” he said. Governor Sule warned troublemakers to stay clear of the state.
He promised to take prompt and decisive action in apprehending and prosecuting anyone caught breaching the peace being enjoyed in the state.Governor Sule said: “What is more troubling is that in spite of our untiring effort that has kept us on our toes before and through the weekend; there was a needless loss of lives of our citizens.
