Mr. Emmanuel Ejima, the Coordinator of the Ikwo East Development Center, was suspended by Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi on Wednesday.
Development Centers are the state’s fourth tier of governance.
There are 64 of them spread over the state’s 13 local government areas.
Kenneth gbala, secretary to the state government, confirmed the suspension in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, the suspension is indefinite and effective immediately.
He said: “His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, has approved the indefinite suspension of Mr. Emmanuel Ekuma from office as Coordinator, Ikwo East Development Centre for negligence and dereliction of duty with immediate effect.
“As a result, Mr. Emmanuel Ekuma has directed that all government property in his possession be turned over to the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner before the end of business on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021.”
Though no cause was given for the coordinator’s suspension, it is suspected that it is related to a new outbreak of hostilities between a village in his domain and a neighboring community in the state’s Abakaliki local government region.
The Enyibichiri/Enyingba community issue has raged for years, with conflicts between the two communities resulting in fatalities.
