Bank official faked own robbery, say police


An official of Abestone Microfinance Bank, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Olagoke Dare, has been arrested by police for allegedly planning with another person to snatch N3 million belonging to the bank which they withdrew from another bank.

The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ibara divisional headquarters, that armed robbers had attacked Olagoke Dare and Mary Agbejo while coming out of a commercial bank, where they had gone to withdraw money.

The suspect, who was armed with a fake gun, informed the police that it was Olagoke Dare who alerted him that his employer would send him and one other person to withdraw the sum of N3m at a given time from a bank and that he should stage a robbery attack on them and collect the money.The suspect said Dare Olagoke also provided the toy pistol used for the botched operation. Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said the incident happened on Monday.
