The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The three-man panel of Justices, in its judgment on Monday, nullified the judgment of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had initially confirmed Barade as the duly elected representative for Bauchi Central State Constituency.
Consequently, the panel ordered rerun elections in some polling units in the constituency, where the appellant, Aliyu Abdullahi Ilela of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged over-voting.
Recall that the appellate court had Friday sacked the Speaker Abubakar Y Suleiman and ordered a rerun in his constituency, Ningi Central.
On Tuesday, the court also sacked the Deputy Speaker, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, and equally ordered rerun in Bauchi Central State constituency.
When contacted, Chairman of the Bauchi House of Assembly Committee on Information, Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada, said, “As lawmakers, we will not do anything but we will follow the procedures and the real thing that is supposed to be done by the Law and the Constitution.”
When asked whether they will elect new speaker and deputy speaker, Nakwada said, “I tell you we will follow all the procedures that is been laid down, if the procedures said so, we will do so and if the procedures did not say so we will not do so.
We will do what the law say and what the constitution says and we are going to do the right thing
