Global human rights body, the Amnesty International has demanded thorough, comprehensive and effective investigation into the Nigerian Air Force bombing of a terrorist enclave in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State that reportedly led to the alleged killing of at least 23 civilians.
Reports had claimed that dozens of residents of the community were killed when the Nigerian Air Force attacked the hideout of the terrorists in the community
The community accused NAF of “mistakenly killing 23 people” during the airstrike.
Abdullahi Ismail, a councillor representing the area, was reported to have confirmed the incident, saying the area was a danger zone because of the activities of terrorists
The villagers said among the victims were farmers and children who were at the community mosque that day
Though the Nigerian Air Force said that it has started an investigation into the alleged killing, Amnesty International said that the Nigerian authorities’ persistent failure to hold the military to account is encouraging impunity and increasingly endangering the lives of the people the military is supposed to be protecting.
The global human rights organisation said, “Amnesty International calls for a thorough, impartial and effective investigation of the Nigerian Air Force bombing that reportedly killed 23 villagers, most of them women and children, yesterday at Kidandan village, Kaduna State
“Those killed include worshippers at a mosque and others at a market.
“The Nigerian authorities’ persistent failure to hold the military to account is encouraging impunity and increasingly endangering the lives of the people the military is supposed to be protecting.”
