A Federal High Court in Abuja has referred two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), Abdulwahab Mohammed and Adeola Adedipe, to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for investigation and potential sanctions over alleged professional misconduct.
The two lawyers represent former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in a high-profile N82 billion money laundering case initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
Justice Emeka Nwite, in his ruling on Wednesday, July 17, stated that both Senior Advocates had committed to presenting their client in court but failed to fulfill their promises, demonstrating unprofessional behavior.
Justice Nwite highlighted that Mohammed and Adedipe had assured the court on two separate occasions that they would produce Bello, but did not follow through. This failure was deemed disrespectful to the court.
The judge also indicated he would consider any applications from the lawyers seeking to alter the ruling and orders issued.
Additionally, Justice Nwite approved Adedipe’s request to withdraw from further participation in the case as a defense attorney.
