In 2018 the Legal Torchbearers Platform organised a mediation Seminar for about 200 lawyers at the Foyer, High Court of Lagos State in conjunction with the Lagos Multi Door Courthouse and we thought we should cap it with CLE points and certificates for attendees
We then approached the NBA-ICLE to monitor the seminar and also offer certificates to attendees and we were asked to pay N50,000 for logistics and certificates. In the course of making payment I mistakenly paid N250, 000 to the NBA-ICLE account instead of N50, 000. I spoke to an NBA-ICLE official and I was informed that their accounts were dormant and the signatories to their accounts unknown. I was therefore compelled to approach a Magistrate Court to do a reversal of the transaction and upon receipt of the N250,000 I paid N50,000 to NBA-ICLE and one of their staff was in Lagos State to observe the Seminar and our colleagues were issued their certificates
In 2020, Mr. Olumide Akpata (Past President of the NBA) appointed Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe to Chair the Board of the NBA-ICLE and today the same NBA-ICLE is now generally accepted as the most impactful organ of the NBA with consistent world class trainings organised by Tobenna Erojikwe and his hard working team
