The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee, JDC, has discharged 42 inmates at the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre.

The Yolde Pate centre, in Yola South Local Government Area, is one of the three correctional centres within the Yola South and Yola North municipal local government areas.

The JDC, headed by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, bailed 25 other inmates and convicted yet 37 others at the Yolde Pate centre.

Those given bail and those discharged were among 182 awaiting trial inmates presented to the committee.

The review work at the Yolde Pate centre on Friday was in continuation of the task of the JDC to decongest correctional centres across Adamawa State.

The 800-capacity Yolde Pate centre currently houses 886 inmates, out of which 665 are awaiting trial, while 185 are convicts: 16 being on death row.

Several cases were registered for consideration at the JDC hearing with the exception of those charged with or convicted for murder, theft, culpable homicide and kidnapping.

Among female awaiting trial inmates discharged was a 69-year-old Saraya Silma who had spent 10 years at the centre over character assassination.

Meanwhile, the state Chief Judge and head of the JDC who congratulated the beneficiaries of the exercise, cautioned them against any act that might take them back.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of them, Dominic David, appreciated the chief judge and her team, expressing hope for a brighter future for everyone involved.
