2023: Presidency Should be Zoned to the North – Yahaya Kwande
Based on the considerations and confusions from various sources on who will emerge as the president after the reign of Muhammadu Buhari.
A chieftain of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, has proposed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) zone the presidency to the north in 2023.
According to the report from Nigerian Tribunes the former ambassador to Switzerland explained that though zoning isn’t included in the constitution, it was an internal planning and agreement by political parties to address some issues Nigeria was facing.
Speaking to the newspaper publication in Jos Ambassador Kwande went on to state that PDP started the zoning to pacify the south after the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
He further expressed that the former President, Goodluck Jonathan deprived the north of the opportunity to complete its eight years after the election in 2011 which he won.
However, the PDP disclosed that it has not yet decided where the zoning of its presidential ticket in 2023 should go as the topic on succession is considered more.
The national spokesperson of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, revealed this during his reaction to the projected defection of Ebony State Governor. Dave Umahi from the opposition blocks.
