Senate Confirms Gbajabiamila as Lottery Commission’s DG
The Senate has confirmed Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila as the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Committee on Sports and Youth Development chaired by Sen. Ogba Obinna (PDP, Ebonyi).
Mr. Gbajabiamila’s name has been with the Senate since May, 2017, when President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him.
Senators had declined to confirm Gbajabiamila, saying he had assumed office even before Senate confirmation.
However, the then acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Habiba Lawal, was reported to have apologised when the Senate confirmed that it was true that the nominee assumed office without its approval.
Since then, nothing was heard of the issue again until yesterday when the report of the committee that screened the nominee was adopted by the Senate.
