The Lagos State Government has announced that sections of the Lekki–Ajah corridor will be partially closed for eight months to allow for major rehabilitation and improvement works aimed at easing traffic flow in the area.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the project will run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
According to him, the rehabilitation project, which has already commenced with preliminary works, will be carried out in two phases to reduce traffic disruption during the period.
Osiyemi explained that the first phase would be executed in seven sections. During this period, one lane will be closed to traffic while motorists use the other. Once work on the closed lane is completed, construction will shift to the opposite lane.
“Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will continue to have access throughout the construction,” he said.
In the second phase, vehicles moving from Ajah toward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while rehabilitation takes place on the other.
“When the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second. At all times, movement toward Ajah will remain open,” the commissioner assured.
Osiyemi noted that certain sections of the corridor will experience partial closures throughout the rehabilitation period.
He appealed to motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials during the project.
“We urge road users to obey traffic officers and follow diversion signs as directed. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, smoother journeys for everyone,” Osiyemi added.
