Kano Assembly Exonerates Speaker of Bribe Allegation
Kano state House of Assembly has exonerated the Speaker, Alhaji Alhasan Rurum of collecting bribe of over N100m from Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The Speaker was alleged to have collected the bribe last year during investigation of financial misappropriation leveled against the Emir of Kano Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II.
The House exonerated the Speaker following the adoption of the report submitted by a committee set up to investigate the allegation.
The chairman of the committee Alhaji Hamza Sule Bichi stated that the allegation was baseless and unfounded as the purported giver of the bribe Aliko Dangote denied any knowledge of it.
The Speaker stepped aside for his deputy, Hamisu Ibrahim Cidari to preside over the plenary while reading and adopting the report.
It will be recalled that the Speaker resigned his position six months ago to give room for transparent investigation. He later emerged as the Deputy Speaker two months ago following a crisis that was later resolved by the state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. He remained on the position until recently when the Speaker Yusuf Abdullahi Ata was impeached and Rurum returned to the seat.
