Human Trafficking: Gov. Ben Ayade Pledges Support for NAPTIP
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has pledged his support for National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, in the fight against human trafficking across the country.
Ayade made the pledge in Calabar, yesterday, while declaring open a three-day workshop on production of the protocol for identification, safety and re-rehabilitation of victims of trafficking organised by NAPTIP.
Represented by Attorney-General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Joe Abang, he said: “Cross River, over time, has been known to be an anti-human trafficking friendly state and shall not rest on its oars until the scourge is brought to its barest minimum or totally eradicated.”
“This growing ugly trend of illegal migration and human trafficking in Nigeria is very worrisome as thousands of our able bodied young men and women are daily being deceived and smuggled out of the country through treacherous routes in search of better economic opportunities.”
