Electricity: NERC Commends EEDC over its Customer Enumeration
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has applauded the effort of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in executing its asset and customer enumeration exercise.
This commendation was conveyed in a letter signed by the General Manager, Consumer Affairs, NERC, Dr. Anthony Akah, after EEDC’s presentation on the progress of its ongoing customer enumeration exercise by the company’s Manager, Geographical Information System (GIS), Mr. Uche Anyalewechi in Abuja.
Akah described the company precept as a benchmark for other DISCOS to emulate.
According to him, “As a statutory requirement by NERC, EEDC has since commenced this project, using Geographical Information System (GIS) technology, which allows it efficiently map its entire electrical network system by updating its database and also capturing all electrical assets within its network, with each part of the infrastructure registered on the map. The project is also expected to improve decision making in its operations.”
“The exercise, which is of immense benefit to both EEDC and its customers is aimed at facilitating comprehensive metering of all electricity customers; easy identification of all electrical assets and their state; identification of all existing customers; adequate planning for potential customers and network expansion.”
“Others include; improved power supply and quick response to faults; effective power distribution and monitoring through remote sensing; prompt identification of damaged and non-functional equipment for replacement, as well as improved customer service delivery.”
The exercise, which effectively commenced early last year with Enugu as the pilot, will soon be extended to other states within EEDC’s franchise areas.
In addition, the company stated that “Customers are therefore encouraged to cooperate with our Enumerators when they visit their homes and also avail them with the necessary information needed to make this project a success”.
