The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a syndicate allegedly involved in vandalising network installations in Jega Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the arrest followed credible intelligence about a suspicious ash-coloured Ford Sharon vehicle with registration number ABJ-581-HL seen loitering around Jega town.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer in Jega promptly mobilised officers to the area, leading to the arrest of Abdullahi Muhammad, a resident of the Durbawa area in Sokoto State.
A search conducted on the vehicle uncovered several items, including two digging bars, a hacksaw, a hammer, cutters, a solar panel, 21 spanners, 21 battery head covers, a helmet, screwdrivers, scissors, and torchlights.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect specialises in vandalising batteries and other components of network service installations across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, and Nasarawa states.
The police said the suspect also mentioned three accomplices, identified as Nasiru Galashi, Yahuza, and Aminu, who are currently being tracked.
CSP Abubakar added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and possible prosecution of all members of the syndicate.
